Spinal Manipulation Therapy/Chiropractic Spinal Adjustment
Prior to performing or discussing any treatment options, Dr. Hindocha will perform a complete physical examination, including a thorough Orthopedic and Neurological examination. Dr. Hindocha performs gentle Chiropractic Adjustments, referred to as Spinal Manipulation in the scientific community. Dr. Hindocha is a local Chiropractor in San Mateo / Burlingame / Millbrae for over 12 years and has been skillfully performing this procedure since. There is a good deal of research on the benefits of spinal manipulation in both acute and chronic neck and back pain.

Vertebral Axial Decompression/Spinal Decompression
VAX-D (Vertebral Axial Decompression) is a patented medical technology that gently stretches the spine and decompresses discs. VAX-D has sometimes been referred to as Spinal Decompression Therapy. In short, VAX-D has been shown to cause a negative intradiscal pressure, something that regular traction has been unable to demonstrate. VAX-D / Spinal Decompression Therapy is a series of treatments designed to gently stretch your spine, allowing a negative pressure within the disc, to reduce the size of your disc herniation or bulge. In addition to disc herniations / protrusions / extrusions and disc bulges, VAX-D Spinal Decompression therapy has also been shown to be effective for: sciatica, spinal Arthritis, degenerative disc disease, failed back surgeries, facet syndrome and other chronic back conditions. Dr. Hindocha has been performing Spinal Decompression therapy in San Mateo / Burlingame / Millbrae for over 12 years. Moreover, we are the only clinic with the VAX-D Spinal Decompression system in the San Francisco Bay Peninsula. Please visit our VAX-D Spinal Decompression web site www.sanmateobackpain.com to read the research.

Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy modalities are usually incorporated into your treatment plan. In addition to Chiropractic adjustments, Spinal Decompression Therapy, your Doctor may recommend adjunctive modalities to help: reduce inflammation, reduce muscle spasm, stimulate weak or damaged muscles and/or accelerate tissue healing such as:

Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Therapeutic Ultrasound
Mechanical Traction
Manual Traction
Hot/Cold Therapy

Exercise Therapy
In addition to the “passive therapies” described above, many of Dr. Hindocha’s patients receive an active rehabilitation / exercise plan as part of their treatment plan. Although not recommended in the acute phase of care, therapeutic exercises can help accelerate healing and return to prior functional levels. In addition to diagnostic specific rehabilitative exercises such as strengthening, stretching and flexibility exercises, Dr. Hindocha prescribes cervical (neck), thoracic (mid / upper back) and lumbar (low back) stabilization exercises. Dr. Hindocha believes that exercises and rehabilitation protocols enhance many aspects of this Chiropractic and Spinal Decompression practice.

Manual Therapy
Manual therapy refers to various techniques used to address joint restrictions and soft tissue dysfunction. It differs from chiropractic adjustments in that the movements are slower and use less force. Sometimes referred to as joint mobilization, manual therapy techniques are used to stretch contracted muscles and ligaments, impart more range of motion to a joint, and re-set disarticulated joints. The techniques can be passive (patient does not engage muscles during the procedure), active (patient is asked to move the treated body part during the procedure), or active-resistant (patient applies a resistive force during the procedure).

Massage
At Peninsula Spine & Sports Rehabilitation, Dr. Hindocha may perform soft tissue treatment which falls under the broad category of 'Massage'. Examples of these procedures are: Myofascial Release, Trans Friction Massage and soft tissue manipulation. Theses procedures are employed when there is a soft tissue component to your condition. They are usually done prior to the adjustment to relax soft tissue in order to get a more effective adjustment. Other indications may be to reduce edema and swelling or to break up myofascial adhesions. Referrals for Therapeutic Massage are also available upon request.
